Lion President Brad Dano

Hello everyone:

After last month’s busy calendar of events, it seeps kind of slow by comparison for this month. I guess everyone was enjoying the great summer weather at their favorite vacation spots.

As usual we started off the month with the Senior Center Pancake Breakfast which was held on August 11th. Lion Jim and Lion Don lead the cooking crew through a particularly larger breakfast service which was brought on by the Costco Membership drive being held in the lobby of the Senior Center.  I cannot say for certain, but I do believe this was one of the largest turnouts for this event. We served 252 adults in a two hour period.

Thanks to the Lions who were able to assist Lion Jim and Lion Don at that event.

Lion President Sharon Mika

On June 26, 2017 Captain Megan Couto made history as she became the first female to command the Queen’s Guard at Buckingham Palace in London, England. And on this same date the Elk Grove Lions Club installed their first female president, making history right here in our small corner of the world!  Thank you for this honor and opportunity!

As usual for July we were pretty busy.  We started off the month with the pancake breakfast at the Senior Center on July 8th with Lion Don & Lion Jim leading the cooking crew.  We also cooked hamburgers and hotdogs Saturday night that same day and pancakes and sausages the next morning for the CSD Community Campout in Elk Grove Park. Lion Brad and myself lead the crews for our commitment to CSD.  On July 22nd, Lion Jack and Lion Jey covered the Elk Fest with help from Lion John Z Jr, and Lion Taka, distributing info on the Elk Grove Lions Club at Morse Park on a hot day!

July 27th thru July 30th, Lion Dave and his crews covered the parking for the annual Strauss Festival in Elk Grove Park.  July 29th was the Kohl’s Child Spree where we cooked pancakes and sausages and also had the Sight Van in residence.  Over 65 kids had their eyesight checked and 12 VSP vouchers were issued.  Great Job to Lion Dave and Lion Andy and their small crew for taking care of the kids.

We slow down a bit in August with dinner meetings on the 14th and 28th and our board meeting on August 21st..  We will once again be cooking for the Senior Center Pancake Breakfast on the 12th.

Thanks so much to Lion Jack, past president, whose help has been immeasurable in assisting the transition to the new board! Thanks to all Lions for helping serve our community!
