Lion President Sharon Mika

Our first Corn Beef & Cabbage dinner was last month. Thanks to Lion Taka taking the lead on this fundraising dinner, and with the help of many Lions, I think we had a pretty good turnout. We hope this event will become an annual fundraiser.
Our dinner meetings this month are on April 9th and the 23rd, with the board meeting on April 16th all at the Senior Center. As usual, we will have our monthly pancake breakfast at the Senior Center on the second Saturday of the month, April 14th. After the breakfast, Lion Brad and I are cleaning up our storage shed. We could use your help! If you can help please be at the Senior Center at 11:00.
April 21st we are helping at CSD’s Just Serve Day at the Rotary Grove in Elk Grove Park. Calling all Lions to help assist with preparation & serving the BBQ lunch. Hours are from 9:00 to 1:00. Thank you in advance for your help with this event as it is part of our contract with CSD.
The District 4-C5 Convention is in San Ramon – April 19th thru the 22nd. Your incoming President, Lion Brad Dano and myself will be attending. On April 27th we will help support James McKee Elementary with a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for Giovanni Gallegos. Lion Jay will lead the crew for this one.
Sheldon High School spaghetti feed is on April 28th, with Lion Brad as lead.
On April 29th, with Lion Jack and crew, we will once again be assisting with the Running of the Elk.
This month we will be voting for our new board. We still have a couple of positions to fill, maybe that’s you! Your Lions Club needs your support!
As a reminder to all Lion Chairs, please talk to your contact person at the event you are working. Remind them as we support them, sometimes year after year, that we would like their support at our fundraisers so that we may continue to be of service to our Community. Maybe you can reach out to the contacts you have helped this year already in hoping they will support our next big fundraiser, The Day of the Dead Carnitas Dinner, with the World Famous Chicken Drop!
The Big Day of Giving is coming up quick! Please lead family and friends to our website where there is a link. A big Thank you to Lion Joe & Lion Jack who have been working on this since last year.
And in closing, thank you for your continued support of the many activities the Elk Grove Lions Club help assist. We couldn’t do it without all of your help!

Our club suffered a great loss this month with the passing of Lion John Zehnder Sr. Lion John Sr. joined the Elk Grove Lions Club in 1953 and became a life member in 1983. That’s 65 years of service!!! He was truly an inspiration to us all as he was still serving the community until just recently and always with a smile!

The pancake breakfast on March 10th at the Senior Center started this month’s activities. Also on that day we celebrated Tracey Edwards as our Woman of the Year at the Delta Lions Club Celtic Tea at the Grand Island Mansion.

March 16th is a busy night. We have double duty with the Pleasant Grove Pasta & Bingo night with Lion Taka as chair and Lion Jack & crew will be at the Soroptimist Martini’s & Merriment at the Falls Event Center.

March 17th is our first ever Corn Beef & Cabbage fundraising dinner at the Elk Grove Pavilion with Lion Taka chairing this new event. We are struggling to fill seats so please help get the word out.

We welcome the community to our dinner meeting on March 26th to come and check us out. If you know someone who would be a good fit for the club this is a good opportunity to bring them to the meeting.

Lions Eyes across California day is also on the 17th of March. We will once again partner with Pride of Laguna to collect eye glasses at Colton Insurance from 9:00 to 2:00. You can also bring your recyclables as Lion Andy has been collecting in preparation for supporting our area youth at the Sacramento County Fair.

Our next big fundraiser is coming up next month on March 17th, 2018. Keep selling those tickets so that we may have a great turnout for this dinner. Also plan on donating a raffle item for the silent auction. About half of our fundraising income is from the auction and by your donation we won’t have to purchase any items. On February 7th, we have the Chili’s fundraiser night; dine in or take out, a portion of your meal will be donated to our club.
Our monthly pancake breakfast is on February 10th at the Senior Center.
Following that we have the student speech contest on February 12 at the Senior Center at 6:00 with a spaghetti dinner following around 7:00. Please show your support by attending this contest.
February 15th, Lion Taka and crew will handle the Cub Scout Pack 179’s Blue and Gold Dinner. February 17th is the District Cabinet Meeting which we will help host with the Sutter Zone Clubs.
On February 24th, we have the annual Burger & Brews Dinner for PGHS with Lion Dan and crew handling the cooking.
We now have work T-shirts available to purchase. These are a royal blue with the Lions logo on the front and Elk Grove Lions Club on the back. Lion Taka has graciously offered to order these for us; please see him if you would like to order a couple.
And to wrap up February, our dinner meeting on the 26th will be “Swiss dinner” night; the Lions John Sr. and now John Jr. Zehnder along with friends help prepare the sausage each year. We hope to see you at our next meeting!

We are best known for fighting blindness — it’s part of our history as well as our work today. But we also volunteer for many different kinds of projects including disaster relief — across many borders. We serve youth. Our community projects often support local children and schools with new programs and resources. Internationally, we offer many programs.
