President’s Message
Outgoing President’s Message:
2019-2020 and 2020-2021 Club Year.
Fellow Lions, Friends of the Elk Grove Lions Club and our Community.
I am proud to have been given the opportunity to serve as president these past two years.
I would like to thank the board officers for staying together for the two years for their commitment to our club and to make the right decisions to keep our club going and to help the community during some of the most difficult and trying times in our lives, as it affected our community, state, and Our Great Nation.
To the club members, you continued to help the club reach the community when they requested our support. The club cannot make it without YOU, and all of you made it happen.
Our club’s outreach to the community slowed to a crawl, but we did manage to assist prior to the mandated closures. When we slowly went back to the community, we did something new in partnership with the CSD, like “Movie Night at the Park.” I am also proud to report back to the club, the partnership agreement we secured with the CSD, allowing us to start the Community Pancake Breakfast once again soon at the renamed Albiani Recreation Center.
To Lion Jack Edwards, Elk Grove Lions Club’s 2020-2021 Lion of the Year. My sincerest thanks for all you did behind the scene to assist me in keeping the club heading in the right direction for our continued success.
To Lion John Muegge, the club’s NEW President, as the club and the community returns to a positive direction, I wish you well in the coming year. I know that at this point, you’re entering an unknown trail, but you can be assured that you’ll have the support of the club’s members during your trek and we’ll all make it a positive and FUN experience for you and your board. Always remember, “Lions are ready whenever and however our communities need us”.
Sincerely,
Lion Taka Blackburn
Incoming President John Muegge’s Message:
I am truly honored to be the President of the Elk Grove Lions Club. I started going to Elk Grove Lions Club crab feeds at the SES Hall in 1992 after I moved from Lodi to Wilton. I worked for Georgia Pacific in Elk Grove from 1988 until 1998. Lion John Johnson was an operator at Georgia Pacific and Marie Wood was the office manager. We would generally reserve 2 tables for all of the Georgia Pacific employees who wanted to attend. I also joined the Wilton Volunteer Fire Department where I met Lion Dale Gangle and Lion Bill Kirkland.
After 5 years on the volunteer fire department, I finally called it quits due to my extensive travel schedule which did not allow me to fulfill ongoing training requirements. It was at this time that I started thinking about joining the Lions Club. This was also about the time that Lion Dale left the club after his divorce. This was when I met Lion Fred Handley at Bob’s Bar while playing billiards there after work. I got to know Fred and enquired about joining the Elk Grove Lions Club. He invited me to a dinner meeting and subsequently became my sponsor. It has been a long time and I am finally stepping up to be President of the Elk Grove Lions Club. I am looking forward to serving as your President during the next year. Hopefully it will be a more active year than last year as Elk Grove opens back up after the Covid-19 crisis wanes.
The July board meetings will be on the 12th and 26th. The board meeting will be on the 19th. |
