President Warren Weaver’s Message: 

Fellow Lions, Friends of the Elk Grove Lions Club and our Community.

We started the month of November with plans to assist the Strauss Festival with their Fall Fundraiser. Unfortunately due to a lack of sales, they had to cancel. That does not mean that we did not have plenty to do this month.

On Monday the 7th of November, I along with my wife, Lion Jack Edwards and his wife attended the Elk Grove Citizen of the Year dinner to congratulate long time Elk Grove volunteers, John & Betty Hall. I was surprised to discover that Lion Jack not only prepared the slide show for the event, but he was also the Master of Ceremonies. As you might expect, he did a great job representing our club that night.

On Friday the 11th of November, several Lions assisted Lion Lyndon King with the Veterans Day Parade. We also donated 1000 hotdogs to the Elk Grove Rotary to BBQ for the veterans and the members of the public who attended the Parade and Stand Down at Elk Grove Park

The next morning we were back at the Albiani Recreation Center for our Community Pancake Breakfast.

We were also one of the clubs who was assisting with the People-to-People Thanksgiving Dinner. Our sister club, The Pride of Laguna Creek Lions, headed up the effort with assistance from members of our club.

As was noted last month, our club was asked to be the Service Club Sponsor of the Holiday Lighting Parade scheduled on the first Saturday in December. Lion Jack Edwards is heading up this project with the assistance of Lion Lyndon King. The main sponsor is Sutter Health. Not only will we gain more recognition for what we do in our community, we will receive a grant from the City of Elk Grove along with one from Sutter Health for our efforts. These grants will cover our costs as well as to provide funds for us to continue to provide services to our community.

Of course one of the major activities of the month was the re-birth of our Annual Crab & Shrimp Feed at the SES Hall. We partnered with the Elk Grove Optimist Club on this project. Within the first two weeks of November, the Optimist Club had already started to sell tickets. Lion Jack’s online ticket sales resulted in the sale of our first table.

To end the month with a bang, two of our members, Lion Sharon and Lion Lorene are working on Operation Santa Clause to provide Christmas for two families.

President Warren Weaver’s Message: 

Fellow Lions, Friends of the Elk Grove Lions Club and our Community.

As you know, we were busy as usual for the month of October. We started out the month with the Great Pumpkin Festival where we had a new job. Instead of parking cars, we got back to our roots and prepared meals for the CSD staff and volunteers. On Saturday, we prepared Tri-Tip sandwiches, which were very well received. Thank You to Lion Jason Springer for doing a great job on smoking the Tri-tip. On Sunday morning, we prepared breakfast and later we prepared lunch.

We had our monthly pancake breakfast for the community on the 2nd Saturday of October.

Our big event was our Carnitas Feed on the 29th. Lion Jey Strong did a great job of putting it together. Past members, Pancho Sanchez and Agustin Palacios, teamed up with the rest of our Lion cooks to prepare the Carnitas. Of course, Lion Dave King and his wife did a great job with putting the raffle together and Lion Lorene did an outstanding job with the dessert silent auction.

Several Lions will be assisting Lion Lyndon King with the Veterans Day Parade on November 11th. We also got started with the planning process of stepping up to be the Service Club Sponsor of the Holiday Lighting Parade scheduled on the first Saturday in December. Lion Jack Edwards is heading up this project with the assistance of Lion Lyndon King.

All together, it was a great month.

President Warren Weaver’s Message: 

We ended September with a flurry of activity, as usual. This month we assisted the CSD with their Great Pumpkin Festival on October 1 & 2. We provided lunch on Saturday and breakfast and lunch on Sunday to their staff and volunteers as part of our obligation to CSD for the use of their facilities for our meetings. On the second Saturday, we will again held our monthly Community Pancake Breakfast at the Albiani Recreational Center. Just two weeks later, we hosted our annual Day of the Day Carnitas Festival which we have not held for the past couple of years because of Covid.

Coming up in November we will be assisting the Food Bank with their annual Turkey Box give-away by providing traffic control for them on the 19th. We will follow that in December with the return of our annual Shrimp and Spaghetti Feed. Because of the Illumination Festival on the 2nd Saturday of December, we will have our event on the 10th of December. This year we will be partnering with the Elk Grove Optimist Club for this event.

We are best known for fighting blindness — it’s part of our history as well as our work today. But we also volunteer for many different kinds of projects including disaster relief — across many borders. We serve youth. Our community projects often support local children and schools with new programs and resources. Internationally, we offer many programs.

  • Community Breakfast Report: September 10th, 2022 Served 85 adults/6 kids,  69 hour and 13 Lions worked
  • Adreani PTA Spaghetti Feed: Made 28 gallons of spaghetti sauce to freeze. Served 260 ppl, 5 Lions worked, 30 hrs total Spent $758.59 total to make sauce
  • Bean Pot at Oneto’s: Will finalize who is completing this at future date

 

New Business:

  • EGFBS Turkey Dinner Box (Parking) – Will Be doing Parking and Traffic control again this year.
  • Leo Club – Will be forwarding this request to the Maharlika Lions Club
  • Voting on New Member: Will be installing our new members on the September 26th dinner meeting
