President’s Message
As you all know, July 1st is usually the date that we move forward with our new slate of officers. In this unusual situation with the Covid-19 pandemic, we, as a club, have chosen to allow our officers to stay in office until we can have a face-to-face meeting to move our new officers into place.
This is also the time that our District’s new officers take office. The info at the bottom of this newsletter will provide the info on our District 4c5 officers.
Also, just as unusual, we have been holding our meetings online using Zoom. All members who have email addresses listed with the club have been sent these meeting notices. At this time, I know of only one member who chooses to not use email and, of course, who has not received these email notices.
The other unusual thing about our current situation is that we have not been able to hold our regular fundraisers or to support community efforts for other organizations to hold their fundraisers. That being the case, at our June board meeting, we opted to support outreach efforts within the community in other ways.
Our friends at the Laguna-Sunrise Rotary have been providing meals to community members who cannot gain easy access to food. As such, we voted to donate $2,000 to their Rotary Foundation to help support their efforts.
Additionally, since we usually support the Elk Grove Optimist Clubs Child Spree at Kohl’s, which they have had to modify, we voted to donate $2,000 towards the shopping spree. We will not be able to be there to provide a pancake breakfast or to provide vision screening, so this is our effort to help support this important project.
Finally, to add some adventure, we decided to host a “Bring Your Own Mask” board meeting at Beeman Park on July 20th. 6:00 pm for the board meeting and 7:00 pm for dinner. Tickets for this Admin Fundraiser will be $10.00 per person. All club members as well as their family and friends are invited. Lion Jack will be producing the tickets, so please contact him with your orders so that we will know how much food to prepare. We will be setting out tables, with the appropriate distancing, to allow family groups to sit together while we enjoy each other’s company.
I continue to be so very proud to be a part of such a great community minded organization, the Elk Grove Lions Club. |

Lions are in 200 countries and geographic areas. We have 45,000 clubs with over 1.3 million members world wide. We have a dynamic history. We are best known for fighting blindness — it’s part of our history as well as our work today. But we also volunteer for many different kinds of projects including disaster relief — across many borders. We serve youth. Our community projects often support local children and schools with new programs and resources. Internationally, we offer many programs.
-
- We hope you will consider joining our club.
- To become a Lion, you must be of good moral character and good reputation in our community.
- Membership is by invitation.
- If you’re interested in being invited to join Lions Club of Elk Grove, you may want to consider some of the following facts about Lionism:
- Lions are active.
- Our motto is “We Serve.”
