President’s Message
Lion President Bob Brewer
Our Club’s speech contest winner has continued to move forward. She won the Zone contest and then won the Region contest. She also won the District contest where she competed against 3 other speakers, one speaker from each Zone. It was held at the Sheriffs Community Room on April 22nd. Unfortunately, at the area contest in Redding, she did not win. Congratulations for all of your effort goes out to Kathy Le. Thanks to the Lions who drove to Redding to support her while I was at the Convention in Reno.
We had several items on the April calendar: Delta Lions Celtic Tea on April 2nd, Running of the Elk on April 3rd, Senior Center Breakfast on April 9th, Sheldon High School Sober Grad Spaghetti Dinner on April 9th, Franklin Elementary School Camp-out on April 22nd, District Student Speaker Contest on April 22nd, Hands Helping Hands on April 23rd, Clean up at the Senior Center Tea on April 23rd, Jesse Banker Lunch on April 27 & 28. Finally, the District Convention is in Reno, April 28- May 1.
The month of May brings a slightly less busy schedule. In addition to our regular meetings and the pancake breakfast at the Senior Center, we will be working at the Scholarship Awards Banquet on the 5th and the Sheldon High School Senior Breakfast on the 23rd. We are gearing up for a buys June. Spotlight BBQ at Mosher Ranch where we handle the parking and the cooking will be a full day of work to support the Scholarship Foundation. Remember that we have our installation dinner on June 27th at the Senior Center. Lion Dave Ogden will be handling the job as head cook and PDG Erv Gon will be our master of ceremonies.

Lions are in 200 countries and geographic areas. We have 45,000 clubs with over 1.3 million members world wide. We have a dynamic history. We are best known for fighting blindness — it’s part of our history as well as our work today. But we also volunteer for many different kinds of projects including disaster relief — across many borders. We serve youth. Our community projects often support local children and schools with new programs and resources. Internationally, we offer many programs.
- We hope you will consider joining our club.
- To become a Lion, you must be of good moral character and good reputation in our community.
- Membership is by invitation.
- If you’re interested in being invited to join Lions Club of Elk Grove, you may want to consider some of the following facts about Lionism:
- Lions are active.
- Our motto is “We Serve.”
