Well my friends and fellow Lions, we are at the end of our year and I am ready to step down as your president and welcome Lion Bob Brewer as your new president next month.
It has been a great year and I am very proud of all of the hard work you have done for your community and Lionism. We again excelled as a club and all of the thanks goes to you, the members, who put in the time and effort to live the motto, “We Serve.”
We had a busy May and have a busy June to look forward to as well. As usual, our cooking crew did a great job at our monthly pancake breakfast for the Senior Center. We assisted with drinks and clean up at the Spotlight on Scholars event at the 1st Babtist Church on May 7th. Our delegates were at the District Convention from May 8-10. We assisted Relay for Life at Franklin High on May 16th, cooked breakfast for the Sheldon High Seniors on the 21st, and a pancake breakfast for Adriana Elementary School on May 27th. If that wasn’t enough, during this year’s county fair, May 21-24, we provided breakfast on the 23rd for the FFA & 4H students from Elk Grove and then we cooked breakfast for about 9,000 students and buyers on the 24th.
Heads up for June as we enjoy the Pride of Laguna Lions Club’s Brewfest on June 5th at the Laguna Town Hall. We also have the Spotlight at the Ranch: BBQ & Country Bands on the 13th of June. Lion Joe is the chair of the event. We will be handling parking as well as cooking for this year’s event. Make sure to sign up and give Joe a hand. We are also doing our monthly breakfast at the Senior Center. Several of the members will be cooking breakfast before heading over to the Mosher Ranch to assist Lion Joe. We are still planning a visitation to Rio Vista on June 2nd and to Fair Oaks on June 11th. We still need a couple more Lions for those events.
Don’t forget that we will be installing the new president and board of directors at the Installation Dinner at the Senior Center on June 15th. The installation dinner will cost $30 per person. The menu will be Prime Rib with all the fixings, but for those of you who don’t want beef, we will also have chicken and the fixings. You can buy your tickets online, or you can mail your check to the PO Box, or you can bring a check to the board meeting on June 8th. If you are ordering by mail or bringing a check to the board meeting, please identify which dinner you want, Beef or Chicken, and how many of each. If mailing your check, send it to:
It is our PayPal ordering system. Don’t worry, you don’t have to have a PayPal account to use it. It will accept your credit card. Quick and Easy.
One final note; as we welcome in the new president and board of directors, we still need a Lion to step forward to fill the 2nd VP slot.
Thanks again for supporting me as your president. I am looking forward to assisting incoming President Bob Brewer as he takes over the responsibilities as our new president.

Lions are in 200 countries and geographic areas. We have 45,000 clubs with over 1.3 million members world wide. We have a dynamic history. We are best known for fighting blindness — it’s part of our history as well as our work today. But we also volunteer for many different kinds of projects including disaster relief — across many borders. We serve youth. Our community projects often support local children and schools with new programs and resources. Internationally, we offer many programs.
We hope you will consider joining our club.
To become a Lion, you must be of good moral character and good reputation in our community.
Membership is by invitation.
If you’re interested in being invited to join Lions Club of Elk Grove, you may want to consider some of the following facts about Lionism:

Announcements
June 8th: Board Meeting (enter through the front door, not the kitchen) The Senior Center Board meeting will be using the large room on June 8th in order to meet their requirement to accommodate large public access once a year. They start their meeting at 3:15 or so. We hold our board meeting at 7 pm which leaves a chance for our meetings to overlap.
To avoid interfering with their meeting, we will use the Senior Center Library for our Board meeting. We will need to enter through the front door of the Senior Center so as not to disturb their meeting in the big room.
June 15th: Installation Dinner at the Senior Center.
Dues:Time is coming for our annual dues. As you remember, they are $80 per year. Just so you know, $25 goes to MD4, $43 goes to LCIF and $12 is kept by the club. That $12 per member goes into the admin fund. It is not enough to pay our annual insurance bill, which is why we are always looking for a way to bring in admin funds. We should probably discuss dues at an upcoming board meeting.
Don’t wait until June 30th to pay your dues. You can pay them at the end of this month or you can send your dues check in with your installation dinner check.
The best option is to bring 2 checks to the Board Meeting. Mark the memo field as “Dues” for your dues check and mark the memo field “Installation Dinner/Chicken” or “Installation Dinner/Beef” or “Installation Dinner/1 Chicken-1 Beef” for your dinner tickets. We will know if you want to 1 or 2 beef or chicken dinners because the amount would be $30 or $60.
Let’s reach out to our fellow members:
Please keep Lion Heinz in your prayers. He started radiation treatment in December. Give him a call and lend him your support. He can be reached at (540) 888-3936.
As many of you know, Lion Sterling has been in a care facility since his stroke. He would love to have some visits from his Lion friends. Call ahead to make sure he is not out on a field trip. He is at Emeritus of Laguna Creek, 6727 Laguna Park Drive, EG, CA. 95758 916-683-1881

We also send our thanks out to Dr. Diana Holcomb, O.D. for her support of our mission to support people with visual impairments. You can find Crystal View Optometry at 8347 Elk Grove-Florin Road, Suite 123, just north of Calvine Road.
