Thanks to all of the members of our club, we had a great February as we served the Elk Grove Community. We did not have a pancake breakfast in February due to the move of the Senior Center to their new facility. We are looking forward to getting back on track in March.
During the past month, many of our members have been working to obtain Food Managers Certification as well as Food Handler Certification. All of this was handled by the Senior Center in the past, but since we are the primary users of the kitchen in the future, we need to obtain our own training and certification.
We had a great turnout for our annual Student Speaker Contest, thanks to Lion John Zehnder, Jr., and Lion Jack Edwards. Also a special thanks to Lion Don and crew who hosted the pizza dinner. Congratulations to our winner, Margarita Jamero. She is scheduled to move forward to the Zone contest on March 13th at 7:00 pm at the Robbie Waters Pocket-Greenhaven Library at 7335 Gloria Drive, Sacramento. Please plan on attending to give her your support.
I mentioned last month that our past president for 2005-2006, Dave Ogden, was in hospice. Dave passed away last month. Those of you who knew Diann should take the time to reach out to her during this difficult time for her.

Lions are in 200 countries and geographic areas. We have 45,000 clubs with over 1.3 million members world wide. We have a dynamic history. We are best known for fighting blindness — it’s part of our history as well as our work today. But we also volunteer for many different kinds of projects including disaster relief — across many borders. We serve youth. Our community projects often support local children and schools with new programs and resources. Internationally, we offer many programs.
We hope you will consider joining our club.
To become a Lion, you must be of good moral character and good reputation in our community.
Membership is by invitation.

Beeman Recreation Center update Lion Jack. Several lions have already obtained their Food Handler Certificates and Lions Don, Warren & Jack will be obtaining their Food Manager’s Certificate. Lion Don will hold copies of certificates in binder for use at our community pancake breakfasts to satisfy requirements of CSD. All lions who assist with the breakfast need to obtain a food handler certificate. It only takes a couple of hours, on line, and a minimal cost of less than $10, to get it. You can take the training and get the certificate in one day. Please forward a copy to Lion Don when you finish.

Sheldon HS Band needs some help and Lion Brad will be assisting on his own time, not as a Lion, but will be using our smoker to cook tri-tip.
Starting in March, our meetings need to conclude by 7:45 to allow CSD staff time to secure the building and lock up. They have modified their hours to work with us so that they have staff on Mondays until 8:00 pm. Otherwise we would have to pay the cost for part time help to keep the facility open after their normal 5:00 pm closing time. A special thanks to CSD for making the adjustment to work with us.
We will not be working parking for the Early California Days because the CSD did not give the Historical Society permission to charge admission for their event.
Visitations: Take some time to visit JoeTallerico. He is undergoing Chemo treatments on Mondays, but would like some lions to visit later in the week. Call first to see if he is up to a visit.
