Lion President Sharon Mika

We have exciting news to share:
The Elk Grove Citizen of the Year was announced for 2017-18 with a Lion once again taking honors.  Congratulations to Lion Pancho Sanchez!
We wrapped up our last dinner meeting for the month of September with a visit from DG Nick McNicholas and part of his staff.  He provided some interesting facts about our club & members and shared upcoming events.
We also ended the month of September with several Lions assisting the Elk Grove Rotary Club at their annual Beef & Reef fundraiser at Lent Ranch.  Great job to the Lions who stepped up at the last minute to offer their help.
As we begin October, our first scheduled task is to help CSD with parking for the Giant Pumpkin Festival held in Elk Grove Park on October 7th & 8th.   Lion Dano is taking lead on this with crews for Saturday and Sunday.
This is part of our agreement with CSD and gives us use of the Pavilion for our next big fundraiser which is the Day of the Dead Carnitas Dinner on October 28th.  Tickets are a reasonable priced $25.00 each and we will once again have the “World Famous Chicken Drop” with a promised more lively chicken this year! You are encouraged to wear your favorite costume.  Keep selling those tickets!
We have some guest speakers scheduled for our dinner meetings this month;  Friends of the Library are here on October 9th and AirMed Care on October 23rd.  Make plans to attend these dinner meetings for an informative night.
We will be supporting the Elk Grove Senior Center with our monthly pancake breakfast on October 14th and assisting with at the Strauss Festival fundraiser on October 21st.
Don’t forget to save your recyclables; the monies collected are used towards our support of the Sacramento County Fair livestock auction.
And finally don’t forget to check out the Big Day of Giving website.  You can make your donations now to the Elk Grove Lions Foundation.  Thank you for your support!

Lion President Sharon Mika

It’s been a very hot summer this year and August was no exception. But in spite of the heat the Lions continue to roll along and get the job done!  Lion Don & Lion Jim with crew cooked the monthly pancake breakfast supporting the Senior Center which is held on the 2nd Saturday of every month.

At our dinner meeting on the 28th of August, we had visitations from other clubs.
PDG Erv Gon and several board members from the Citrus Heights Club along with the Antelope Club Tail Twister were in attendance.

We have two major fund raisers coming up. Next month on Saturday, October 28th the Day of the Dead Carnitas Festival will be held at the Elk Grove Pavilion.  Last year was our first dinner and we had such a great turnout we are going to host a dinner again!

Ticket sales will be starting soon. On December 2nd, we host our annual crab feed at the SES Hall.  We need your help!  The silent auction is a great asset for raising funds at both events and you can do your part by contributing a silent auction item for BOTH.  By your donations, we can help keep costs down and funds up!  You can drop off your donations at one of our meetings or the Senior Center. Thank you in advance for your support!

And thanks to my awesome board members for covering for me in my absence!  It’s rewarding to be a part of such a helpful and supporting crew!

Stay cool

Lion President Jack Edwards

Well, we are now almost half way through my presidency. We had a great November thanks to all of you. We hosted the pancake breakfast for the Senior Center on the 12th of November. We also had a great Thanksgiving Dinner Family Night on the 14th.

I was unable to be at the board meeting on the 21st, but 1st VP Lion Sharon handled it well.

Of course, the big event of the upcoming month is the Crab and Shrimp Feed on December 3rd. Hopefully all of you have sold plenty of tickets so that we have a successful fundraiser.

We have a Senior Center Pancake Breakfast on the 10th, followed by our December Family Christmas Dinner on the 12th with Lion Don and his cooking crew on the job. Rather than paying the club for the dinner,  we will be collecting a check or cash for the Elk Grove Food Bank. Please plan to bring cash or a check made payable to the Elk Grove Food Bank Services in the amount of $10 or more.

Lion Joe Tallerico and his crew will be handling the traffic at the Elk Grove Food Bank’s Christmas Food Box event at the Creekside Church on the morning of the 19th. We will also have a board meeting on the 19th at the Senior Center.

I hope to see all of you at our upcoming activities.
