Another month as your president, and everything is going well. Thanks to the board and to the members of our club for your support. As you would expect, we had a busy August and are looking toward a busy September.
Of course, we had our regular pancake breakfast to support the Elk Grove Senior Center on the 2nd Saturday of the month. We also had a great time at the roasting our own Past District Governor Andy Anderson on the 15th of August at the Roseville Lions Clubhouse. We had 10 members and guests travel to Roseville in support of Lion Andy. The food was great too. If you did not get enough to eat on the 15th, it was quickly followed by the Annual International Food Fair on the 17th. More great food and a wonderful time for Lions to get together and visit.
If that wasn’t enough, there was the dinner at Short Line Lake on August 30th which is a regular fundraiser for our club. Speaking of fund raisers, we have one coming up in September and we will need the support of every member to make this a successful event. We will have a Tri Tip Dinner Pick-Up on September 22nd at the Senior Center. We hope to be cooking several hunderd tri tip roasts as well as 4 times as many baked potatoes. Of course, there will be beans, salad, bread and cookies to round out the meal. Click Here for more info. Please pick up a book of tickets at the next meeting and get them sold. If you are not going to make the next meeting, tickets are available online so tell your friends to go online to buy tickets. The link for tickets is near the top on the right side of the page. www.ElkGroveLionsFoundation.org Thanks to Lion Taka for taking the lead on this project.
In addition to the tri tip dinner noted above, we have a couple of other events scheduled for September. We are cooking tri tip and chicken for a dinner at St. Peter’s Church on the 5th, we will be cooking our monthly pancake breakfast for the Senior Center on the 13th and we will be doing a spaghetti dinner for Andreani Elementary School on the 26th. Don’t forget that we have scheduled a visitation to the Galt Lions Club on September 25th. If you have time in your busy schedule, please plan to assist with some of these events.
Please join me in continuing the tradition set by our past club presidents in keeping the Elk Grove Lions Club at the top of the list of service clubs in Elk Grove.

Lions are in 200 countries and geographic areas. We have 45,000 clubs with over 1.3 million members world wide. We have a dynamic history. We are best known for fighting blindness — it’s part of our history as well as our work today. But we also volunteer for many different kinds of projects including disaster relief — across many borders. We serve youth. Our community projects often support local children and schools with new programs and resources. Internationally, we offer many programs.
We hope you will consider joining our club.
To become a Lion, you must be of good moral character and good reputation in our community.

I am just into my second month as the president of our club, and I missed the board meeting but knew that I had it covered. Unfortunately, too many other board members were gone in July, and we did not have a quorum for the meeting. As you will see below, there are no board meeting minutes for July.
That did not keep us from having a busy month of July. We had our monthly pancake breakfast at the Senior Center. We also assisted the Strauss Festival with their parking control and still had enough members to cook pancakes for the Kohl’s Child Spree that same weekend. There are times that our members make it easy to be the President because they always step up to the plate to provide assistance to our projects.
In the coming month, we are looking forward to roasting our own Past District Governor Andy Anderson on the 15th of August at the Roseville Lions Clubhouse. That will be followed by the Annual International Food Fair on the 17th. You will find links to flyers for both of these events below.
Please join me in continuing the tradition set by our past club presidents in keeping the Elk Grove Lions Club at the top of the list of service clubs in Elk Grove.

Lion Gary will be missed by all of us in Elk Grove as well as throughout the world of Lions. Our prayers to out to his family and especially to his wife, Lion Laurie Dapelo, during this time of loss.
As I take over as the new President of the Elk Grove Lions Club, I am thankful that I will have Past President John Zehnder, Jr., there to assist me. He did a great job this past year, leading us to our second year as the best club in the district. I also want to congratulate our Lion of the Year, Lion Taka Blackburn and our most recent Melvin Jones Fellow, Lion Warren Weaver. Both of these Lions are on my new board and I know that they, along with the rest of my board, will help me lead the club to a great year.

Let’s remember PDG Gary Dapelo. A long time member of our Elk Grove Lions Club, Gary lost is battle with cancer.
No matter what I write about Gary, it will always be inadequate to tell the story of how much he gave to his community and how much he was loved by his family.I think it is best to share the piece written by his live long partner and wife, Lion Laurie Dapelo in the District Newsletter, The Pride.
