Thanks for all your help in a very busy February and getting ready for our March Crab Feed. We started out the month helping Lion Joe review several hundred scholarship applications. On Friday the 10th as we hosted the bar for the memorial service for Mary Lewis. Of course, Lion Jim & Lion Don handled the Senior Center Breakfast on Saturday the 11th. At our 2nd Monday meeting we will be hosted the Student Speaker Contest at 6:00 at the Senior Center. Our winner from last year returned, but lost to Prentice Hitt from Elk Grove High School. The Zone contest is set for March 6th. On the 16th, Lion Taka and crew worked the Blue & Gold Event for Pack 179. Lion Pancho and crew worked the Markofer Spaghetti Feed on the 17th and Lion Weaver and crew worked the Pleasant Grove High School Burgers and Brew event at the Pavilion at Elk Grove Park. And finally, at our 4th Monday meeting we announced the start of the election of officers for 2017-2018 year.
Coming up in March we will be almost as busy. We start the month with our Crab Feed on March 4th, followed by the Zone Student Speaker Contest on March 6th. On March 10th we will be hosting the bar for the Soroptimist Martinis and Merriment event. Lions Don & Jim and crew will be handling the Senior Center Breakfast on the 11th followed by our 2nd Monday meeting on the 13th. We will continue with the nominations for officers at that meeting and I expect a visit from Ed Smith to talk about a Student Speaker Fundraising event. We will also be joining the Pride of Laguna at Colton Insurance for the 3rd Annual Eyes across California for a statewide eyeglass collection event. After the board meeting on the 20th, we will move forward with another busy week. I will attend a CSD Master Planning Meeting on the afternoon of the 21st followed by the Chamber of Commerce mixer that evening. The theme of the night will be Elk Grove’s non-profit organizations. I have signed up to staff a booth and hope for a few members to assist. Friday the 24th is also double booked. We have a Regional Student Speaker Contest, if our winner moves forward, and the Spaghetti Feed at Pleasant Grove Elementary. On Saturday the 25th, we have the Mel Oneto Memorial Pasta Feud and the Delta Lions Club Celtic Irish Tea. We end the month at our 4th Monday meeting with more nominations for officers from the floor. Keep in mind that we will be voting for our board on April 10th.
I hope to see all of you at our upcoming activities.

Lions are in 200 countries and geographic areas. We have 45,000 clubs with over 1.3 million members world wide. We have a dynamic history. We are best known for fighting blindness — it’s part of our history as well as our work today. But we also volunteer for many different kinds of projects including disaster relief — across many borders. We serve youth. Our community projects often support local children and schools with new programs and resources. Internationally, we offer many programs.
We hope you will consider joining our club.

Although I usually start my message with a Thank You for your support over the prior month, but since our major fundraising effort is next month, I am going to start out by asking you for your assistance in selling Crab Feed Tickets for the March 4th Crab Feed.
Now, I want to thank to all of you who made sure that we had a successful January Senior Center Breakfast on the 14th. Also, thanks to Lion Weaver & crew who assisted at the Lacrosse Dinner on the 27th.
We do have a busy schedule coming up in February. We will start out the month helping Lion Joe review several hundred scholarship applications. On Friday the 10th as we host the bar for the memorial service for Mary Lewis. Of course, there is a Senior Center Breakfast on Saturday the 11th. First of all, thanks to all of you who made the December Crab Feed successful. It is one of our major fundraisers each year, and although we had smaller numbers of guests than last year, we still had a successful event. Special thanks to 1st VP Sharon for stepping up and managing her first crab feed. Also thanks to the crew who handled the pancake breakfast on Saturday the 10th. Lion Don and crew did a great job at our Family Christmas Dinner on the 12th. Also, thanks to Lion Brad for being Santa for the kids. Last of all, Merry Christmas to Lion Joe and his crew who handled the traffic control for the Food Bank’s Christmas Box Drive Thru at the Creekside Church on the 19th.
As we start the new year, we have our first meeting of the year on the 9th, followed by serving breakfast at the Senior Center on the 14th of January. Our board meeting is on the 16th and the final meeting of the month is on the 23rd. All of the meetings will be at the Senior Center.
I hope to see all of you at our upcoming activities.

1. Why are we always pushing for fundraising events?? Because we have regular monthly expenses; What are they ?
What are our monthly expenses? We need to determine what we need to break even.
Approx. Monthly Expenses
Senior Center Breakfast
$350.00
Eye Exams/Glasses
$125.00
Insurance
$90.00
P.O. box
$10.00
Propane
Monthly Total
$575.00
We need about $6900 per year in fund raising to meet the estimates noted above.
2. March Crab Feed- So, do we want to start a new tradition and do something other than a crab and shrimp feed in March
a) Crab Feed Same Price? Jack wants to order tickets so that we can get started selling in January.
There is a lot of competition for selling crab feed tickets after the first of the year.
We are checking with CSD to see it pavilion is available for March 3 for a cheaper venue
Lion Lorene is still checking on dates with CSD for options for Carnitas Dinner (March 17/18th & Oct 28th
3. Caritas Dinner – If we are going to do one, lets plan it now and get a date:
4. We still need a 3rd VP. We are still looking for a VP
5. Lion Taka: Needs to seek pre-approval for the 3 Eagle Scout plaques at $17.50 each.
Plaques will ONLY be made when the scout notify us of their court of honor date. APPROVED by board
6. Request from Jenn Leon, on behalf of Musical Mayhem Production for running a Bar. They are going to have wrist bands for adults.
Lion Andy is chairperson for this event.
Approved by board
7. It has come to the attention of the board the Lupe and Family was only paid $180 not the normal fee of $250 for crab feed dishes.
The board decided to pay Lupe additional $80 plus a $100 Christmas gift to Lupe and Family APPROVED by board
8. Elk Grove Chamber of Commerce dues have not been paid. We will be paying them. APPROVED by board
