Although I usually start my message with a Thank You for your support over the prior month, but since our major fundraising effort is next month, I am going to start out by asking you for your assistance in selling Crab Feed Tickets for the March 4th Crab Feed.
Now, I want to thank to all of you who made sure that we had a successful January Senior Center Breakfast on the 14th. Also, thanks to Lion Weaver & crew who assisted at the Lacrosse Dinner on the 27th.
We do have a busy schedule coming up in February. We will start out the month helping Lion Joe review several hundred scholarship applications. On Friday the 10th as we host the bar for the memorial service for Mary Lewis. Of course, there is a Senior Center Breakfast on Saturday the 11th. At our 2nd Monday meeting we will be hosting the Student Speaker Contest at 6:00 at the Senior Center with a spaghetti feed to follow at about 7:00. On the 16th, Lion Taka and crew will be working the Blue & Gold Event for Pack 179. Lion Pancho and crew will be working the Markofer Spaghetti Feed on the 17th and Lion Weaver and crew will be working the Pleasant Grove High School Burgers and Brew event at Elk Grove Park.
At our 4th Monday meeting we will announce formally the start of the election of officers for 2017-2018 year. I hope to see all of you at our upcoming activities.

Lions are in 200 countries and geographic areas. We have 45,000 clubs with over 1.3 million members world wide. We have a dynamic history. We are best known for fighting blindness — it’s part of our history as well as our work today. But we also volunteer for many different kinds of projects including disaster relief — across many borders. We serve youth. Our community projects often support local children and schools with new programs and resources. Internationally, we offer many programs.
We hope you will consider joining our club.
To become a Lion, you must be of good moral character and good reputation in our community.
Membership is by invitation.
If you’re interested in being invited to join Lions Club of Elk Grove, you may want to consider some of the following facts about Lionism:

Use of the Pavilion: We were asking about March 17/18 & Oct 28. Did we get any info available dates? Waiting to hear back from Marni from CSD.
Status of Blue & Gold Dinner for Pack 179 in February discussed at November Board Meeting? Lion Taka is chairperson, Lions will be cooking spaghetti and Lion Jey will be donating garlic/cheese bread for this event. Lions have approved a budget/donation of $200.
This is the Centennial Year for Lions International. Can we use that as a theme for the crab feed? The club thinks this is a very good theme plus the fact that this spring is our 40th year anniversary our spring Crab Feed.
March Crab Feed – Are we staying with the SES Hall? Checking on date otherwise we have to make out deposit on the SES Hall.
Carnitas Feed – If we are going to do one, lets plan it now and get a date that does not conflict with other Elk Grove Service Club fund raisers. Good options are May, August or September. Waiting on dates
We still need a 3rdLion Taka was nominated and accepted for this position
From Lion Andy: Is the club interested in doing a fund raiser for the Elk Grove FFA for the fair? The club came to the discussion that there is not enough time with our other commitments to be able to do a fundraiser for FFA at the fair this year.
From Lion Joe: Support for Spotlight at the Ranch. This will be the last year at the Mosher Ranch. They will be planning something new for next year. It was agreed that the Club will feed the Family and Sponsors breakfast on Sunday June 11, 2017
From Lion Taka: Two requests. 1 for Eagle Scout Plaques and 1 for Tanner Joyce’s Will Stodden Scholarship Matching Fund Request. Eagle Scout Tanner asked for donation for the Will Stodden Scholarship and asked question from the board, the board approved the request. Lion Taka asked for pre-approval for 3 Eagle Scout Plaques. The plaques will cost of $17.50. The Eagle Scouts are: John Amazon, Dominic Hinton, Nicholas Karnow. The board approved both requests
From Lion President Jack & Lion Dave King: Death of long-time supporter, Mary Lewis from the Citizen. Waiting to hear from David Herburger about assistance needed for her services. I will entertain a motion to provide support for purchasing and preparing food for her services in an amount to not exceed $500. We can coordinate with any other service clubs that will be assisting David and his family with the services. The Board Approved
From Lion John Z Jr: Is the club willing to host a spaghetti feed for the Student Speaker Contest? The Board approved to have Spaghetti dinner for the Student Speaker Contest
