Half way through my term as your President. I appreciate all of the assistance I have received over the past 6 months and look forward to a productive 2016. Although we had challenges with our December “non” Crab Feed, we did have a successful fundraising dinner. We raised a little over $2,000 at our TriTip and Shrimp dinner. Now it is time to get started on our March Crab Feed. The Crab season is open along the west coast, so I am looking forward to a successful fundraiser. Make sure to contact your friends and neighbors and sell some tickets so that we can have a successful fundraiser for the club this spring. The tickets will be available by the middle of January.
We had a great turnout for our Christmas Dinner in December, so thanks to Lion Dave & Lion Pancho for a great dinner. We also had a great time assisting the Elk Grove Food Bank at their Christmas Dinner Box event at the Baptist Church on the 21st. Thanks to all who were out in the cold and windy day to assist.
We have a busy schedule as we move into the new year. Of course, our pancake breakfast for the Senior Center of Elk Grove on the 9th. Also, I am looking forward to having all of you at our January 11th meeting. District Governor Mike Retzlaff and his Cabinet will be our guests at our first general meeting of the year. Also in January, our friends at the Galt Lions Club will be hosting their Crab Feed on the 16th. So, if missed having crab in December, maybe you need to buy tickets from the Galt Club. I expect one of their members at the January 11th meeting to be selling tickets if it has not already sold out by then. You can contact them at the above link if you want to be sure to get a ticket.
The Sheldon HS Band Spaghetti dinner is set for the 23rd. Finally, maybe you want to go to the LEF Soup and Salad event on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the Lincoln Veteran’s Memeorial Hall, 541 5th Street, Lincoln, CA. I have attended in past years and it is a great time to enjoy great food and to visit with fellow Lions throughout the district. For more info on the Soup and Salad event, contact PDG Andy Anderson. We have three events already scheduled for February, so you will have plenty of opportunities to volunteer next month.
Meetings: 2nd & 4th Mondays (except November & December)
Board Meetings: 3rd Monday
Location: Senior Center of Elk Grove 8830 Sharkey Avenue
Application for Membership
Lions are in 200 countries and geographic areas. We have 45,000 clubs with over 1.3 million members world wide. We have a dynamic history. We are best known for fighting blindness — it’s part of our history as well as our work today. But we also volunteer for many different kinds of projects including disaster relief — across many borders. We serve youth. Our community projects often support local children and schools with new programs and resources. Internationally, we offer many programs.
We hope you will consider joining our club.
To become a Lion, you must be of good moral character and good reputation in our community.
Membership is by invitation.
If you’re interested in being invited to join Lions Club of Elk Grove, you may want to consider some of the following facts about Lionism:
