I thought September was busy, but nothing compared to October. Again this year, the Lions staffed the harvest Festival Parking for two days early in the month, followed by our cooking for the Franklin Elementary School’s Harvest Festival on the 11th. On Saturday the 12th, we had our monthly pancake breakfast for the Senior Center, followed that evening by cooking a dinner for the Pleasant Grove High School Aggies.
The following Saturday, the Lions cooked a fabulous dinner for the Strauss Festival Dinner and Dance. No only did we cook, but one of our members bought a table to support the event, inviting several friends to a special dinner event. I think he even sold a couple of crab feed dinner tickets for our December Crab Feed while visiting with fellow dinner guests.
If that was not enough, we were recogized at three separate venues for our volunteer work in our community. On October 1st, we were recognized by the School District for our support of two major events to support our local schools earlier in the summer; our Carnitas Festival and our work on the Kohl’s Child Spree. On the 22nd, we attended a thank you event for our assistance and participation at this year’s Elk Fest. Finally, we received the Mayor’s Volunteer Award at a ceremony at the City Council Meeting on the 23rd.
If that was not enough, there were several other events in the District that were available to our members such as the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. Of course, in addition to the usual NCLSA meeting, and the LEF meeting, there was a Zone meeting in Elk Grove this month. If you were hungry, there were other events in the district involving food and we didn’t have to cook. The LEF 49’r Tail Gater Lunch and the NCLSA Chili Cook off were held in October. Finally, let’s not forget the Marharlika Lions 1950’s Dance Party on the 12th.
So, we head into November and the beginning of the holiday season with more events on our club plate. We have a fundraiser that I hope all lions will help make a success by selling those ‘tri-tip’ dinner tickets. We are also preparing for the big crab feed fundraiser as well. I am hoping to get a couple of visitations in so we can see what other clubs are doing in the way of service. I invite all of our members to get involved anyway they can as the success of our club rests on all of us. I pray you all have a great thanksgiving a holidays with family and friends.
Again we lived up to our motto, “We Serve”.

Lions are in 200 countries and geographic areas. We have 45,000 clubs with over 1.3 million members world wide. We have a dynamic history. We are best known for fighting blindness — it’s part of our history as well as our work today. But we also volunteer for many different kinds of projects including disaster relief — across many borders. We serve youth. Our community projects often support local children and schools with new programs and resources. Internationally, we offer many programs.
We hope you will consider joining our club.
To become a Lion, you must be of good moral character and good reputation in our community.
Membership is by invitation.
