As unusual, we have been holding our meetings online using Zoom. All members who have email addresses listed with the club have been sent these meeting notices. At this time, I know of only one member who chooses to not use email and, of course, who has not received these email notices.
Remember that we are only doing two meetings per month during the Covid-19 situation. We have our board meeting on the 3rd Monday Board Meeting and our regular 4th Monday meeting so that we can advise members who did not attend our board meeting what transpired during the board meeting. All members are welcome to our board meetings.
In November, we will have our board meeting on the 9th and our regular meeting on the 16th so that we do not interfere with Thanksgiving.
We will have a similar change in December. The board meeting will be on the 14th but we will push our dinner meeting to the 28th so that the members are free for Christmas.
The other unusual thing about our current situation is that we have not been able to hold our regular fundraisers or to support community efforts for other organizations to hold their fundraisers. We have scheduled a Tri-Tip drive thru for November 4th and we expect a great turnout. We have already sold over 100 tickets so far.
I continue to be so very proud to be a part of such a great community minded organization, the Elk Grove Lions Club.
One final note of something exciting from the month of October. Another Lion and his wife were selected as Elk Grove’s Citizens of the Year. Congratulations to Lion Jack Edwards and Soroptimist Tracey Edwards for being recognized for this special award. If we ever get back to normal, you can expect to see them in public events and parades in the new year. You can read more about it in theElk Grove Citizen. Although they usually have a celebration dinner on the first Monday of November, that will not be held this year because of Covid-19. They will be celebrated next November along with the 2021 winner.

Lions are in 200 countries and geographic areas. We have 45,000 clubs with over 1.3 million members world wide. We have a dynamic history. We are best known for fighting blindness — it’s part of our history as well as our work today. But we also volunteer for many different kinds of projects including disaster relief — across many borders. We serve youth. Our community projects often support local children and schools with new programs and resources. Internationally, we offer many programs.
We hope you will consider joining our club.
To become a Lion, you must be of good moral character and good reputation in our community.
Membership is by invitation.
