Fellow Lions, Friends of the Elk Grove Lions Club and our Community.
Another month has come and gone, and we seem to have been as busy as ever.
As usual we had our regular Monday night dinner meetings and our monthly board meeting. We also had a great time on the 2nd Saturday of the month hosting our Community Pancake Breakfast.
On the 2nd of September we worked a special fundraising event at Short Line lake. Thank you Lion Rebecca for your leadership and Lion Jason for the off site prep work on the dinner meal.
We were scheduled to host our first annual Burgers and Brews Dinner on the 9th of September but pushed it off to next spring because of a lack of ticket sale. It was up against 3 other major fundraisers that were scheduled for that day.
We were asked to support the CSD Pajama Party, breakfast for dinner, at the Laguna Town Hall on the 14th of September. It was a special recognition event for their part time staff and was a great success.
On the 21st of September, we worked a pasta dinner for the Elliot Ranch Elementary School. The attendance was a bit low but it was still a great evening supporting our community.
We held a special event at Uplift Elk Grove on the 26th of September where we prepared dinner for their group and for the public invited to their open house. It was a great event and we are proud of all of the Lions that were in attendance that evening.
We were scheduled to assist Christy Cares at her pasta dinner, but it was cancelled because of a lack of ticket sales. She will try again next spring.
What is coming up for October:
We are in the planning stages for the Great Pumpkin Festival where we will be cooking for the employees and volunteers for CSD. It will be a great break from doing the parking at the event.
One of our very special events on our schedule for the month of October will be the “Fight Hunger, Locally and Globally.” We have invited members of every service club in Elk Grove along with employees of the City of Elk Grove and CSD. We plan to fill over 10,000 meal packets and to collect at least 50 cases of canned goods for the Elk Grove Food Bank.
We are also scheduled to host an Elk Grove High Pasta Dinner and the Bradshaw Christian High School Fall Festival.
Finally, coming up in October will be our annual Day of the Dead Carnitas Festival on the 28th.
I’m proud of our club and all that we do for our community. Our schedule is the busiest it has been in years, and that means we are meeting our mission to serve.
Sincerely,
Lion Bob Shipley
By the way, did you get a chance to read this article about our Service Clubs written by our own public affairs officer, Lion Jack Edwards, published by BeLocal in June? In July, the companion article about several of our local non-profit organizations was published. Thanks Jack for getting the word out about the Lions and the other great organizations in our community. You can read it here. Below the picture of the monthly magazine you will find the article about the non-profits and the interview with Jack & Tracey.

Lions are in 200 countries and geographic areas. We have 45,000 clubs with over 1.3 million members world wide. We have a dynamic history. We are best known for fighting blindness — it’s part of our history as well as our work today. But we also volunteer for many different kinds of projects including disaster relief — across many borders. We serve youth. Our community projects often support local children and schools with new programs and resources. Internationally, we offer many programs.
We hope you will consider joining our club.
To become a Lion, you must be of good moral character and good reputation in our community.
Membership is by invitation.
