Lion President Bob Brewer

Our Club’s speech contest winner has continued to move forward. She won the Zone contest and then won the Region contest. She also won the District contest where she competed against 3 other speakers, one speaker from each Zone. It was held at the Sheriffs Community Room on April 22nd. Unfortunately, at the area contest in Redding, she did not win. Congratulations for all of your effort goes out to Kathy Le. Thanks to the Lions who drove to Redding to support her while I was at the Convention in Reno.

We had several items on the April calendar: Delta Lions Celtic Tea on April 2nd, Running of the Elk on April 3rd, Senior Center Breakfast on April 9th, Sheldon High School Sober Grad Spaghetti Dinner on April 9th, Franklin Elementary School Camp-out on April 22nd, District Student Speaker Contest on April 22nd, Hands Helping Hands on April 23rd, Clean up at the Senior Center Tea on April 23rd, Jesse Banker Lunch on April 27 & 28. Finally, the District Convention is in Reno, April 28- May 1.

The month of May brings a slightly less busy schedule. In addition to our regular meetings and the pancake breakfast at the Senior Center, we will be working at the Scholarship Awards Banquet on the 5th and the Sheldon High School Senior Breakfast on the 23rd. We are gearing up for a buys June. Spotlight BBQ at Mosher Ranch where we handle the parking and the cooking will be a full day of work to support the Scholarship Foundation. Remember that we have our installation dinner on June 27th at the Senior Center. Lion Dave Ogden will be handling the job as head cook and PDG Erv Gon will be our master of ceremonies.

Lion President Bob Brewer

As usual, we had a busy month.  Our March Crab Feed was held on the 5th. We had abut 240 paid guests. Thanks to all lions who assisted Lion Pancho in the kitchen as well as those who tended bar, sold tickets, and supported our club. We had a busy Senior Center Pancake Breakfast last month and Lion Andy and crew represented us well as the first annual sold out Soroptimist Club Martinis and Merriment event on the 18th of March.

Our Club’s speech contest winner has continued to move forward. She won the Zone contest and then won the Region contest. She is now moving forward to the District contest where she will compete with 3 other speakers, one speaker from each Zone. It will be held at the Sheriffs Community Room. Doors will open @ 6:30 with the contest starting at 7 pm on April 22nd. You are welcome to come support our winner.

As usual, your support at long list of activities, as well as our monthly meetings and our board meetings, is very much appreciated.

We have several items on the April calendar: Delta Lions Celtic Tea on April 2nd, Running of the Elk on April 3rd, Senior Center Breakfast on April 9th, Sheldon High School Sober Grad Spaghetti Dinner on April 9th, Franklin Elementary School Camp-out on April 22nd, District Student Speaker Contest on April 22nd, Hands Helping Hands on April 23rd, Clean up at the Senior Center Tea on April 23rd, Jesse Banker Lunch on April 27 & 28. Finally, the District Convention is in Reno, April 28- May 1.

The first order of business for the first April meeting is the election of a slate of new officers. Fortunately we did have nominees for each office. The new board will take office starting in July and they need to know that training is available for them to get off on the right foot. According to Lion Andy it will be held in June, so let’s put it on the calendar.

Here are our new officers:

Lion President Bob Brewer

As usual, we had a busy month. Lion Weaver handled the Markoffer Spaghetti Dinner. Thanks to Lions Rick & John Jr., we had our Club’s speech contest on Monday the 8th. We picked a good winner who went on to win the Zone contest. She will be going to the Region contest which is scheduled for March 29th. It will be held at the Sheriffs Community Room. Doors will open @ 6:30 with the contest starting at 7 pm. You are welcome to come support our winner. Of course, we had a great turn out at our pancake breakfast for the Senior Center of Elk Grove on the 13th. Our Lions jumped in to cover for Lion Charlie for the Blue/Gold Dinner on the 18th; thanks Lion Jim, Lion Jack & Lion Brad and Debbie S.  Lion Pancho kept us busy at the PGHS Lacrosse Tri-Tip Dinner on the 19th and the PGHS Aggie Boosters Dinner on the 27th.

Coming up this month, of course, is our March Crab Feed on the 5th. Call Lion Pancho and offer your assistance. Lion Jim will probably need your help at the Senior Center Pancake Breakfast on March 12th. Lions Andy will be running the bar at the Soroptimist Martinis and Merriment on the 18th. We will also be supporting the Optimist Wellsprings Breakfast on the 23rd. Finally, as noted above, our speech contest winner will be giving her best at the Regional contest on March 29th.

Finally, for those who like to plan ahead, the District Convention is in Reno, April 28- May 1.

Announcements UpArrowPurple

Let’s reach out to our fellow members:

Please keep Lion Heinz in your prayers. He started radiation treatment in December. Give him a call and lend him your support. He can be reached at (540) 888-3936.

As many of you know, Lion Sterling has been in a care facility since his stroke. He would love to have some visits from his Lion friends. Call ahead to make sure he is not out on a field trip. He is at Emeritus of Laguna Creek, 6727 Laguna Park Drive, EG, CA. 95758 916-683-1881

As usual, we want to send out a special thank you to Dr. John J. Eliopulos, O.D. for all of his support with our efforts to continue to provide support to people with visual impairments. You can find Dr. Eliopulos’ office at 9074 Elk Grove Blvd., Elk Grove, CA 95624.

We also send our thanks out to Dr. Diana Holcomb, O.D. for her support of our mission to support people with visual impairments. You can find Crystal View Optometry at 8347 Elk Grove-Florin Road, Suite 123, just north of Calvine Road.
