Fellow Lions, Friends of the Elk Grove Lions Club and our Community.
For the first time this year, we had a rather quiet month. We had a great time on the 2nd Saturday of the month hosting our Community Pancake Breakfast with over 100 guests. It was great that our friends from Post 55 were able to attend before rushing off to the Veterans Day Parade.
As is usual for November, we had our board meeting on the 1st Monday of the month with our Thanksgiving Dinner on the 2nd Monday. We had a great turn out and a lot of good food to eat.
Our crab feed tickets went on sale the afternoon of the Carnitas Dinner and we are already on the way to a sell out.
Several members attended the ribbon cutting for the Project R.I.D.E. Sensory Trail on the 9th of November and several attended the Chamber of Commerce Mixer at the Elk Grove Food Bank on the 14th. Finally, our crew, led by Lion Brad, handled traffic control for the Turkey Box pickup on the 18th of November at Creekside Church for the Elk Grove Food Bank.
Lion Jack has been doing all of the prep work for our first activity of December, the Holiday of Lights Parade at District 56. Our club is the sponsor of this event, and we are coordinating with the City with the hopes that we don’t get rained out. In addition several of our members, who are past Citizens of the Year, are also planning on attending the Citizen of the Year Dinner on the 4th of December where they will recognize Jon Colton, a member of Elk Grove Rotary. Finally, our crew is working on the upcoming December Crab Feed.
I’m proud of our club and all that we do for our community. Our schedule is the busiest it has been in years, and that means we are meeting our mission to serve.
Sincerely,
Lion Bob Shipley
I know that you have seen this note before, but our friends in the other service clubs who assisted us at our “Stop Hunger, Locally and Globally,” have been saying that they are very happy about the article in Be Local that highlights our local service clubs and their major fundraising events. So, if you have not done it yet, take a look at this article about our Service Clubs written by our own public affairs officer, Lion Jack Edwards, published by BeLocal in June? In July, his companion article about several of our local non-profit organizations was published. Thanks Jack for getting the word out about the Lions and the other great organizations in our community. You can read it here. Below the picture of the monthly magazine you will find the article about the non-profits and the interview with Jack & Tracey.
To top it off, we will have a 1/4 page advertisement in Be Local every month in 2024 so that we can push for new members as well as to highlight what we are doing in the community. Go here to see what we already have planned, in the way of public events, for 2024.

Lions are in 200 countries and geographic areas. We have 45,000 clubs with over 1.3 million members world wide. We have a dynamic history. We are best known for fighting blindness — it’s part of our history as well as our work today. But we also volunteer for many different kinds of projects including disaster relief — across many borders. We serve youth. Our community projects often support local children and schools with new programs and resources. Internationally, we offer many programs.
We hope you will consider joining our club.
To become a Lion, you must be of good moral character and good reputation in our community.
Membership is by invitation.
