As they say, time flies when you are having fun. Well, we must be having a lot of fun at the Elk Grove Lions because the year has flown by and I only have a couple of months left as your president. I hope you have been happy with my leadership. I have really enjoyed being your president, but enough of that for now. Back to work as we still have two months to go.
We had a busy April and May will be busy as well. Probably the most important issue that we are facing is the replacement of officers for the coming year. We thought we had a full roster of officers but have had to vice presidents step down in the past two weeks. We need two Lions to step forward, one to fill the 1st VP and another to fill the 2nd VP slots. If you need more time to adjust to moving up the line, it may be possible for our 3rd VP to move up if that makes it easier for you to volunteer to step up. I have heard a rumor that Lion Jack Edwards may be willing to step in as our 1st VP. We will still need another Lion to step up to fill the roster. A special thanks to Lion Warren Weaver and his cooking crew for cooking a Tri-tip dinner for the Walk to Remember. Lion Don and Lion Jim and their crew did a great job at our monthly pancake breakfast for the Senior Center. They served 154 people.
We are assisting with drinks and clean up at the Spotlight on Scholars event at the 1st Babtist Church on May 7th. May is District Convention month; our delegates will be there from May 8-10. We will provide assistance to the Relay for Life at Franklin High on May 16th, cooking breakfast for the Sheldon High Seniors on the 21st, and a pancake breakfast for Adriana Elementary School on May 27th. If that is not enough, during this year’s county fair, May 21-24, we will be providing breakfast on the 23rd for the FFA & 4H students and then about 1,000 students and buyers on the 24th.
Heads up for June as we want to support our friends at the Pride of Laguna for their Brewfest on June 5th at the Laguna Town Hall. We also have the Spotlight at the Ranch: BBQ & Country Bands on the 13th of June. Lion Joe is the chair of the event. We will be handling parking as well as cooking for this year’s event. We will be doing a visitation to Rio Vista on June 2nd and to Fair Oaks on June 11th.
On a final note, please keep Lion Heinz in your prayers. He started radiation treatment in December.

Lions are in 200 countries and geographic areas. We have 45,000 clubs with over 1.3 million members world wide. We have a dynamic history. We are best known for fighting blindness — it’s part of our history as well as our work today. But we also volunteer for many different kinds of projects including disaster relief — across many borders. We serve youth. Our community projects often support local children and schools with new programs and resources. Internationally, we offer many programs.
We hope you will consider joining our club.
To become a Lion, you must be of good moral character and good reputation in our community.
Membership is by invitation.
If you’re interested in being invited to join Lions Club of Elk Grove, you may want to consider some of the following facts about Lionism:
