President John Muegge’s Message:

February has a month of returning to a bit of normalcy. We are back in the Albiani Recreation Center for our dinner meetings. We decided that we would switch to having Board Meetings by Zoom. This makes the meetings much easier than meeting in person and reduces our obligations to the Consumnes Service District for use of the Albiani Center.

For February events, we started with our District Meeting on February 5th at Pioneer High School in the Woodlands Dos Rios Region.

Our Community Pancake Breakfast was held on the 12th of February. The Community Breakfasts are held monthly on the second Saturday of the month at the Albiani Recreation Center from 8 am to 10 am. The breakfast includes all you can eat pancakes. You also get scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit & coffee.  Don’t be surprised if we have specialty pancakes sometimes during the year. For example, we may be serving pumpkin spice pancakes or blueberry pancakes. Of course, there will always be regular pancakes and syrup.

We hosted the Club Student Speaker Contest on the 14th of February. Two students made presentations for the contest and the winner will be going on to the Zone Speaker Contest to be held on March 2nd at the Albiani Center. Congratulations to our winner, Carmen Ma from Pleasant Grove High School, and best wishes at the next level of the contest. Also, thanks to Eleanor Hopper for competing in our contest.

Finally, there has finally been a crab feed event at the SES Conference Hall.

The Theta Tau Theta Crab Feed came back for 2022   The event was held on Saturday, February 26th. Tickets were $70 per person, The event lasted from 5:30 to 11:00 PM @ S.E.S Hall – Elk Grove.  Included: Dinner, Open Bar & Dancing, Silent Auction & Amazing Raffle, All the Crab you could eat until gone!

Open Bar was provided with Lazy Dog Special Brew Beers.  The Lazy Dog Huckleberry Haze IPA was a big hit. The Elk Grove Lions Club supported this event by providing bartending services.

The Elk Grove Lions Club also donated $1000 to support the Lions Wilderness Camp for Deaf Children Foundation.  https://lionswildcamp.org/schedule/

The Elk Grove Lions Club also purchased 25 $5.00 raffle tickets to support the Lions Project for Canine Companions.  The Elk Grove Lions Club will use the tickets as event prizes, door prizes, or dinner meeting raffles.  The raffle will be held in September with a prize of $2000 to the winner.

The Elk Grove Lions Club has also supported the community by turning in 2225 pairs of glasses, 5 phones and 10 hearing aids over the past few months to be refurbished and given to people in need.

Note: The Elk Grove Lions Club holds dinner meetings on the second and fourth Mondays of the month at the Albiani Recreation Center at 6:00 pm to approximately 7:30 pm. Our Board Meetings are at 6 pm on the third Monday of the month by Zoom.  We encourage anybody to attend a meeting to see what we do for the community.

Don’t forget, the Elk Grove Lions Club is having a Drive Thru Tri-Tip Dinner event on March 30th.  Save yourself the trouble of cooking and enjoy a great tri-tip dinner.  https://elkgrovelionsfoundation.org/

Application for Membership

Lions are in 200 countries and geographic areas. We have 45,000 clubs with over 1.3 million members world wide. We have a dynamic history. We are best known for fighting blindness — it’s part of our history as well as our work today. But we also volunteer for many different kinds of projects including disaster relief — across many borders. We serve youth. Our community projects often support local children and schools with new programs and resources. Internationally, we offer many programs.

    • We hope you will consider joining our club.
    • To become a Lion, you must be of good moral character and good reputation in our community.
    • Membership is by invitation.
    • If you’re interested in being invited to join Lions Club of Elk Grove, you may want to consider some of the following facts about Lionism:
      • Lions are active.
      • Our motto is “We Serve.”

Time from about 11:30 am on May 7th to 3:00 pm for wine service and to about 12:30 or so for parking. About 240 people.

The Historical Society also needs 2-4 people to assist with parking at the Civil War Days at the Mahon Ranch on April 29, 30 and May 1. Lion Jack worked it last year with Lion John. No real activity on first day. Lion Jack handled it all on the 2nd day and Lion John helped with the third day. They also said that if we wanted we could do a fundraiser by cooking hamburgers and cheese burgers. Maybe serve beer. Cannot do hot dogs because they already have a vendor for that.

Leslie Flojo from Meet me on the Red Carpet: Needs support for a crew to cook hamburgers and to serve at their event. Start serving at about 5:45 for a couple of hours. Arrive earlier at the Town Hall to grill hamburgers and hot dogs. They will provide food. Between 200 & 225 people.

Old Business / Status Checks / Chairperson’s Report

  • All bartenders need to take the class We have bars on 2/26 & 3/19.
  • Time to start thinking about club officers. 1st VP will need people to step up. We will need a club secretary as Lion Jack already has too many jobs and someone else needs to Jason said he would continue on as treasurer. PDG Andy suggested that the 1st VP call all officers to see who will continue. Also to ask for people to step up as 1st and 2nd VP as well as Secretary. Also, the 2 year directors move up to the one year director position and she needs two volunteers for the two year director positions. Good positions for new members to be a part of the club and to get to know the membership.
