Jack Megna

Jack Megna, a longtime resident of Elk Grove, CA. Born May 6th 1934 passed peacefully at the age of 84 on April 22, 2019 with his devoted family by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents Loreto and Anna Megna, 8 of 9 siblings and his wife Mary of 50 years. He is survived by his brother Thomas Megna (Frieda), 3 children, Mitchell (Paula), Michael (Carla), Jackie (Steve), 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and longtime friends.

Jack Grew up in Pittsburg CA. and Graduated from Pittsburg High in 1952. After high school he joined the U.S. Navy in 1953 where he became an Electrician he returned in 1955 and married his high school sweetheart Mary McDermott. He and Mary moved to Stockton, CA. in 1960 and opened an electric motor shop. In 1963 he moved to Sacramento and started a career in the beauty industry at Salvatore’s Beauty  College where he received his cosmetology license and then became an instructor. He was the first to achieve a life time teaching credentials with the State of California. He then became owner of Salvatore’s for 25+ years. His next endeavor he started Backscratchers Salon Systems in 1983 and retired in 2004 as Chairman of the Board. After retirement he started Elk Grove BBQ & Catering.

Jack enjoyed watching and coaching his kids and grandkids in different sports. He enjoyed many years with his family and friends outdoors camping, abalone diving, and fishing. He and Mary enjoyed traveling the world with friends. Good memories were had with his brothers, Tom, Sal, and friends crabbing in Coss Bay, OR. he also enjoyed restoring hot rods and classic cars. Jack was also a Life Time Member of the Elk Grove Lions Club.
