A memorial reception will take place Saturday, Feb. 6 for Paul A. Jones Sr. of Elk Grove, who died Feb. 1, 2010 at the age of 89. Mr. Jones was born May 16, 1920 in Arkansas where he grew up and married Bernice Carmical on Aug. 7, 1939 in Marlton, Ark. The couple has lived in 16 different cities in Arkansas, California, Missouri, Georgia and Arizona as well as traveling from coast to coast in their RV more than 70 times. They’ve been in every state in the U.S. except for Alaska before coming to Elk Grove.

Mr. Jones held several engineering certificates and worked with Consolidated Aircraft in San Diego during World War II. He was also a retired insurance executive.

In retirement he was an avid leader of RV caravans and clubs and also enjoyed being a newspaper columnist and photographer.

His family said he enjoyed life to the fullest.

Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 70 years, Bernice Jones of Elk Grove; children Paul Jones Jr. and wife Margie of Elk Grove, and Peggy Mitchell and husband Jesse of Fayetteville, Ga.; grandchildren Mandy Branton and husband Lyle, and Amy Slaybaugh all of Fayetteville; Brett Jones and wife Jill of Sacramento, and Guy Jones and wife Kayti of Orangevale; and seven great-grandchildren.

Saturday’s reception will be at the Jones’ residence, 9777 Tavernor Road, Wilton, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
